Prerequisites
Phys 101 or Phys 121

Required text
Physics for Scientists and Engineers, 7th Ed., by Jewett & Serway.
(Chapters 23 to 34 will be covered)
Sections which will be omitted: 25.7, 25.8, 28.6, 30.6, 30.7, 31.6, Chapter 33, 34.4-34.7

Other Resources
MIT OpenCourseWare 8.02 Electricity and Magnetism (Video Lectures and Exam Questions)

Homework
Lecturers will suggest problems chosen from the textbook. Students are strongly recommended to work on these problems. The list of suggested problems will be announced at this page.

Attendance
Students are expected to come to class regularly and on time. They should be prepared to discuss the textbook material and to have worked on the suggested problems.

Exams
There will be two 50-minutes midterms, and a 120-minutes final exam. All exams will be closed book/closed notes. Calculators are not allowed.
Students whose total midterm grade is below 10 or laboratory grade is below 10 cannot take the final exam!

Laboratory
One laboratory session every week. There will be a laboratory exam. See Laboratory Pages for more information.
You MUST register for a laboratory session on October 6th, 2010 at KB 410.

Grading
The weights that will determine the cumulative grade are as follows:
                                                      Contribution Exam Date
                    Midterm I 20% 12 Nov 2010
                    Midterm II 20% 17 Dec 2010
                    Lab 20% 21 Dec 2010
                    Final 40% TBD
The final grades will be determined according to the distribution of cumulative grades.

Makeup Rules
There will be one make-up exam if you miss one or two midterms and you have proper excuse.
A proper medical excuse is a doctor's report taken from one of the following:
Our Infirmary (revir) [Reports from elsewhere in İstanbul are not accepted!]
A hospital outside İstanbul
Non-medical excuses will be considered separately.
See Taylan Akdoğan (for all sections) to submit doctor’s report or discuss about the validity of your non-medical excuse as soon as possible.
If you miss the final exam, you must petition the University's commission.
